A century-old steamed bun shop in Shanghai has re-opened with a distinctive feature, as well as new flavors of steamed buns. Take a look.
Over 100 customers lined up at the gate of Nanxiang restaurant to buy their favorite Xiaolongbao, a steamed bun stuffed with pork. The restaurant reopened at the Yuyuan Garden in Shanghai after being renovated. Most customers here are regulars, and they say that they are here not just to buy delicious buns.
CUSTOMER "I used to buy Xiaolongbaos in the restaurant every week when I was a child. And today I am here to taste my childhood."
Founded in 1900, the Nanxiang restaurant is 118 years old. The "new" Nanxiang is now welcoming customers with its "new look". The restaurant is decorated in a traditional Shanghai-style, and its culture wall and tableware tell the story of the restaurant and Xiaolongbao, through pictures.
CUSTOMER "The restaurant is quite different now. I like its current features. It represents the traditional Shanghai style."
The restaurant has also introduced new flavors including spicy and crab. And it jointly introduced tea sets with a local tea house. The restaurant is trying to attract new customers with its traditional Shanghai culture.

Nanxiang is not the only restaurant that's been upgraded with a new style. Several historic stores including Xing Hua Lou and Gong De Lin are all entering Yuyuan Garden. The area is creating a Shanghai-style culture zone, aiming to show off the Shanghai flavor to customers from China and overseas.
