French rail unions kicked off a mass rolling strike on Tuesday, causing chaos to the country's more than four million train passengers. A two-day strike will be staged every week for the next three months. The national railway SNCF said the strikes will halt 85 percent of France's high-speed trains and 75 percent of its regional lines. Nearly half of the national railway's staff is on strike to protest the government's plan to reduce workers' benefits. President Emmanuel Macron said the SNCF needs to make major changes as EU countries prepare to open passenger rails to competition by 2020.
