In 1901, 11-year-old Milton Gardner moved from the US to Fujian Province, China, with his missionary parents.
这是一个跨越百年的真实故事。1901年，年仅11岁的密尔顿•加德纳（原译为密尔顿•嘎登勒）跟随身为传教士的父亲来到中国福建，并在这里度过了欢乐难忘的童年时光。
He spent a happy and unforgettable childhood there, but was never able to revisit his beloved “Kuliang”.
1911年，加德纳全家因故回到美国加州。长大后的加德纳成为了加州大学物理学教授。时光荏苒，他常常眷念着鼓岭（福州话发音为“Kuliang”），却因为种种原因，没能再回到中国。
On his deathbed, he uttered the words “Kuliang, Kuliang.”
临终前，加德纳反复说着“Kuliang，Kuliang”。
Gardner’s wife, Elizabeth, traveled to China, hoping to find the place her husband adored, but to no avail – until Xi Jinping heard the story in 1992.
而加德纳的太太伊丽莎白却并不知道Kuliang在哪里。为了完成丈夫回到Kuliang的遗愿，她数次往返于中美之间，却无果而终。直到有一天，时任福州市委书记的习近平听说了这个故事。
