Namibian President Hage Geingob is now in China for a seven-day state visit. President Xi Jinping has held talks with him at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Our reporter Su Yuting has sat down to spoke with the Namibian President for his insights on bilateral ties.
SU YUTING CGTN REPORTER Q1: "You and President Xi Jinping have met with each other and agreed to build a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries. What will that mean for the future development of bilateral ties?"
HAGE GEINGOB NAMIBIAN PRESIDENT "Elevation to that stage means that we have been all-weather friends, we have been cooperating before the independence of Namibia. China have been supporting us when things were bad, and then after independence, we continued to another level. Now we are moving up, it's an era of the second phase of struggle for us. We are people who now have peace and stability, but are anxious to get benefits of the freedom, they want to prosper, they want infrastructure, schools and clinics, they are eager, they are in a hurry, so China has been an all-weather friend who was there when we were still struggling, when we were in the second phase of struggle, that economic emancipation, those who were with us must come and join with us. And this time, we are talking about creating a win-win situation. Now elevation of the status is a great honor for us, we are very proud of that. we appreciated of that."
SU YUTING CGTN REPORTER Q2: "The Forum on China-Africa Cooperation Beijing Summit will be held in September this year. After 12 years, Chinese and African leaders will gather together in Beijing again to discuss cooperation plans. What are your exceptions for the FOCAC Beijing Summit?"
HAGE GEINGOB NAMIBIAN PRESIDENT "It's another extension of FOCAC, industrialization, education, technology innovation, these are the things for future generation. Africa is to catch up, otherwise, we will be left behind. Technology, innovation, that's the thing for the future. So, by linking Belt and Road Initiative, we are going to benefit and also get something from that. Join our people, build industries, create jobs and transfer technology, so there will be win-win situation again."
