China has no need or intention to displace the US, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Thursday at a press conference on the sidelines of the first session of the 13th National People's Congress in Beijing.
He made the remarks in response to questions on China's foreign policy and external relations.
He cited the latest poll that shows more than 50 percent Americans have a favorable view of China and urged people to look at positive aspect in China-US relations instead of only focusing on problems.
As the world’s largest developing country and the largest developed country, the top two economies, and permanent members of the UN Security Council, China and the US working together will benefit not only the two countries but also the whole world, he said.
"If there is any competition between China and the US, it has to be healthy and positive," Wang said. "China and the US don't have to be the rivals, but we should strive to be partners in cooperation."
China is committed to peaceful development and win-win cooperation, and China's development is different from the rise of traditional powers. The more China develops, the more contribution it will be able to make to the world, Wang said.
