From Earth, the Aurora Borealis is a stunning spectacle. But a video shared earlier this week by a NASA astronaut shed new light on this breathtaking phenomenon. Astronaut Jack Fischer captured this sight from the International Space Station. Southern lights from 250 miles above the atmosphere were seen as the ISS orbited over the South Pole. Auroras, known as the northern or southern lights, can be seen over polar regions. It occurs when electrically-charged particles from the sun enter the Earth's atmosphere.
