A sea of lotus flowers boost N China’s Shanxi economic conditions

Over 2 million square meters of lotus flowers have blossomed in Yuanqu County in northern China’s Shanxi Province. The scene of pink and white lotus flowers lying in beds of green leaves will be one of the most beautiful sights in China this year.

The lotus flowers can be found in Yuanqu's Gucheng National Wetland Park. Temperature in the county recently has hit around 35 degrees. But the scorching weather can't stop people enjoying the beauty of lotus flowers. Park authorities say that recently the scenic spot has attracted tens of thousands visitors and photographers.
Yuanqu County is located in the southern part of Shanxi Province. It used to suffer from poor economic conditions, but in recent years, has been developing flower tourism. Therefore, the local ecological environment has been improved and more facilities built.

Nowadays, visitors not only can appreciate lotus flowers in summer, but also can see many other blooms such as peach, plum, walnut, pear, pomegranate and apple trees for the rest of the year.
Local authorities said flower tourism had benefited the county with a revenue over 10 million yuan last year, and higher returns are expected this year.
