British Prime Minister Theresa May has welcomed the approval by European Union leaders of a 21-month transition period to help business adapt after Brexit. She called on the bloc to seize a new dynamic in the negotiations.
THERESA MAY BRITISH PRIME MINISTER "We've made good progress on withdrawal agreement, but also I'm looking for a new dynamic in the next stage of the negotiations so that we can ensure that we do develop, that we work together to negotiate and develop that strong future economic and security partnership which I believe is in the interest of the UK and the European Union."
The European Council president, Donald Tusk, says EU leaders have formally adopted their joint negotiating stance on a future trade relationship with the United Kingdom. London and the EU still have to work on the status of the Irish border with the United Kingdom. The two sides say they will agree on an emergency solution to avoid an Irish border if all else fails.
