Tens of thousands of domestic migrant workers from the Philippines arrive in Hong Kong every year in search of a better life. For many of these women, coming to an international metropolis like Hong Kong is not without its difficulties.
CGTN’s Silkina Ahluwalia took a look at the working conditions of these domestic helpers and how they have evolved over the past two decades, since Hong Kong’s return to China.
Cynthia Abdon-tellez is the general manager of Mission for Migrant Workers, a non-profit organization that aims to support and protect domestic helpers in Hong Kong. Their new program, Happy Homes, strives to promote harmony between migrant workers and their employers at home.
She said that more young people were determined to lead and empower migrant workers, creating a support system that helps domestic workers. And activists like Cynthia are continuously working to build a society that cares.
