Eight people were killed in a fire that broke out on Saturday at a residential area in Haifeng county, south China’s Guangdong Province, local authorities said on Sunday.

The fire took place in a community in Gongping township at 3:30 a.m. local time on Saturday, and was put out a couple of hours later, according to officials.

One person died at the scene, and another on the way to the hospital. The six others passed away after being hospitalized.

The cause of the fire has not been immediately clear. Investigation is currently underway.
