China is in the midst of a quite draining heat-wave these days, with temperatures well above average in many parts. While most of us have the luxury of air conditioners or other devices to reduce the searing challenge, others who are fulfilling a particular line of duty may not. CGTN's Timothy Ulrich caught up with some of them.
The heat is on. But there's no escape for some, as they are required in the most sweltering of work environments. But, fortunately, they're only doing the minimum, and are being provided with the best treatment.
LU YANSHENG BEIJING "When it's more than 37 degrees, we postpone work after 3:30. Those who are more than 50 years receive a physical examination."
PENG JIANBO BEIJING "It's hot out there, but cool inside with air conditioners. We have enough sleep time, both at noon and at night."
Because of their dedication, the rest of us enjoy uninterrupted electricity to keep our homes cool and comfortable.
Meanwhile, in the streets of central China's Henan Province, these sanitation workers are also kept going, despite the heat.
HAN XIANGHUA HENAN PROVINCE "The space is small. It has a small fan, but it doesn't really work."
However, rather than being disheartened by her work conditions, she feels fulfilled to provide such a crucial service for her hometown.
HAN XIANGHUA HENAN PROVINCE "This is a small contribution to make the city a beautiful place. I feel proud of myself. "
Local governments and residents across China are looking out for such selfless workers as Han with water, health checks and medical aid. The intense heatwave is expected to continue for another couple of days.
