Former Winter Olympic champion Yang Yang was named chairwoman of the Athletes' Commission of the Beijing 2022 Winter Games. The announcement came at the organizing committee's first plenary meeting in Beijing on Tuesday.
The meeting consisted of 19 current and former Chinese athletes. The majority come from a winter sports background, both able-bodied and Paralympic winter sports. The Athletes' Commission will hold a non-scheduled seminar to discuss issues in regards to Games preparation, and attend Organizing Committee meetings and visit Games venues.

Many, including the new chairwoman, believe this new body will provide a remarkable service to the athletes.
"Beijing 2022 attaches great importance to the Athletes' Commission. The Games is athlete-centered, therefore needs to understand the demands of athletes. From Games organization to event operation, athletes' opinion should be taken into consideration in all aspects," says Yang.
Beijing 2022 promised an athlete-centered, sustainable and economical Olympics during the bidding process. Part of that was the Athletes' Commission, which was established to better reflect athletes' opinion and serve competitors from across the globe.
