China: Nuclear issue can only be resolved by dialogue
[]
Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Lu Kang has said that the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue can only be resolved by dialogue.
Earlier, Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop called on China to use its influence over the DPRK to halt Pyongyang's nuclear and missile programs.
"Throughout the development of the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue, it is clear that dialogue has usually resulted in progress towards a resolution," Lu said.
"But putting pressure on the DPRK has only led to its moving further down the nuclear path and continuing to develop its nuclear strength. China's position is very clear. We are committed to denuclearizing the peninsula, and to peace and stability in the region. The nuclear issue can only be resolved through dialogue and negotiation."
