Meanwhile, the Egyptian Intelligence Bureau has confirmed that meetings have taken place between Cairo and Gaza's ruling Hamas group, as well as Gaza Islamist group Al-Jihad. CGTN's Adel EL Mahrouky has more on that story.
The New Egyptian Chief of Intelligence Abbas Kamel is holding his first publicly announced round of talks with Palestinian Factions. This week he met with delegations representing Hamas and Al-Jihad movement. A statement released that, they've discussed the latest on the ground and investigated means to ease the Israeli blockade over Gaza.
GHAZY FAKHRY MEMBER, PALESTINIAN NATIONAL COUNCIL "I don't think they reached any agreements. Nothing is coming out of these meetings. All previous meetings between Hamas and the Egyptian intelligence ended with a detailed statement from Hamas on what has been agreed upon. This time it's all broad and vague announcements, which indicates that there is no change in the situation on the ground."
Last year the Egyptian intelligence bureau has brokered a reconciliation deal between the two biggest Palestinian groups Hamas and Fatah. Accordingly, a national unity government should have taken control of both the West Bank and Gaza. However, an assassination attempt of Prime Minister Ramy Hamdallah last march during his visit to Gaza has frozen the reconciliation.
GHAZY FAKHRY MEMBER, PALESTINIAN NATIONAL COUNCIL "I am not optimistic. Many chances have been wasted. They want positions and power. They want to rule, Fatah wants to rule in the West Bank, keeping its full control over the Palestinians Liberation organization and Hamas wants to rule Gaza. Meanwhile, Trump's unknown deal of the century is proceeding. He is gradually giving the Israelis Jerusalem, standing against the right of return for Palestinians and has cut his aid to the UNRWA. America is protecting the settlements despite their violation of international law.
President Mahmoud Abbas's movement Fatah is preparing for another negotiations round in Cairo with the Egyptian Intelligence. There are not indications that all Palestinian factions will be sitting together soon.
GHAZY FAKHRY MEMBER, PALESTINIAN NATIONAL COUNCIL "Egypt is exerting its utmost effort. It has held numerous meetings and sent many delegations to Gaza to end this division and enable the unity government to operate. Hamas says they accept the government but they are not allowing it to take control of the ministries and the passages. They are creating parallel authorities. This won't end division, this is not benefiting Palestine.
ADEL EL MAHROUKY CAIRO, EGYPT "Cairo has begun a new round of more inclusive talks with all Palestinian factions. The stagnation seen in the past months in the reconciliation between Fatah and Hamas has stalled possible peace talks. With these revived efforts Egypt is hoping to help Palestinians figure a way to become and most importantly remain united. Adel EL Mahrouky, CGTN, Cairo."
