Putin sees Vladivostok forum as platform to expand China ties

President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday praised bilateral economic ties between Russia and China and said that the Eastern Economic Forum was a good platform to expand their cooperation.
He made the comments during talks with China's Vice Premier Wang Yang on the sidelines of the forum in eastern Russia's Vladivostok.

During last year's forum, the Chinese delegation signed contracts worth almost two trillion roubles (34.9 billion US dollars). This is the third such forum since 2015. It is aimed at attracting billions of dollars in international investment for the Russian economy.
Further cooperation
Wang Yang urged China and Russia to come up with new ideas and proposals for further practical cooperation, meanwhile, during a chairmen's meeting of the joint commission for regular meetings between the Chinese and Russian heads of government held on Monday and Tuesday.
The vice premier co-chaired the commission with Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin.
The meeting was aimed at implementing the consensuses reached by Chinese President Xi Jinping and President Putin on enhancing mutual trust and deepening practical bilateral cooperation, during their fourth meeting this year in the Chinese city of Xiamen.

Wang said China-Russia relations have been developing at a high level in recent years, with bilateral cooperation in various areas making significant progress.
He noted that China remains Russia's largest trading partner, and that bilateral cooperation in investment and infrastructure interconnectivity is expanding steadily.
Rogozin said Russia is ready to work with China to strengthen their comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination.
During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on cooperation in nuclear power, spaceflight, agriculture, the Arctic, civil aviation and the digital economy.
