ISIL is claiming responsibility for a suicide bombing that killed at least 57 people including women and children, and wounded 119 others outside a voter registration center in the Afghan capital on Sunday.
The attack underscores growing concerns about security in the lead up to legislative elections scheduled for October 20th. The vote is seen as a test run for next year's presidential poll. The site of the attack in a heavily Shiite-populated neighborhood in the west of the city was being used by people to register for national identification certificates, which are needed to sign up to vote. AP correspondent Rahim Faeiz reports on a possible motive behind the attack.
