Insulting China's heroes and martyrs, and other acts that besmirch their reputation may soon be punishable offenses in the country.
On Wednesday, the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress convened its bi-monthly session. Among the bills up for review during the three-day session is the draft law on the protection of heroes and martyrs. A new clause in the bill would ban certain actions that glorify war. These include posing in Imperial Japanese military uniforms, or insulting Chinese heroes and martyrs. The law also mandates that network operators respond quickly if they find messages that denigrate heroes.
