The World Trade Organization is conducting its seventh review of the trade policies and practices of China. CGTN's correspondent in Geneva sat down with Roberto Azevedo, the Director-General of the WTO. Mr. Azevedo shared his views on China's trade policies and practices. He said since China joined the WTO in 2001, its role in the organization has been increasing. And he believes the growth of China's imports and exports has also made contributions to international trade.
ROBERTO AZEVEDO DIRECTOR-GENERAL, WTO "China has played an important role in all directions. I think the question now is to see what we need to do in the future to make the WTO's work more effective. China is a major part of the negotiation. I think China will join us to improve our work. Now our system is under pressure, especially in the recent global trade frictions. We are doing our best to make it clear to everyone that trade restrictions will not help anyone. Those who believe in trade restrictions will lose. Those who think they will win, they won't. The WTO is trying to get everyone to understand this point."
