A Russian Su-27 fighter jet intercepted a US surveillance plane over the Black Sea on Monday, the Russian Defense Ministry has said.
"After the surveillance plane of the US Navy had changed its course to move away from the border, the Su-27 returned to its base," the ministry said.
The US aircraft did not violate Russia's air space, according to Russian authorities.
The US also confirmed the intercept, labeling it an "unsafe" action.
The Russian aircraft crossed in front of the US plane from right to left while engaging its afterburners, forcing it to enter its jet wash, which caused the US aircraft to experience "a 15-degree roll and violent turbulence," according to Lt. Col. Michelle Baldanza, a spokeswoman for the Pentagon.
