Public interest lawsuits significantly increased after NGOs were given rights to initiate prosecution. China's revised Environmental Protection Law (EPL) came into effect on Jan. 1, 2015, with amendments further demonstrating the country’s effort to redress pollution and help NGOs to win the "war on pollution".
