The curtain closed on the 9th Beijing International Film Festival over the weekend, amid applause and wows after a star-studded red carpet and the "Tiantan Awards" ceremony where the Danish film "A Fortunate Man" won the top award for "Best Picture". CGTN's Sun Wei takes us there.
SUN WEI BEIJING "Following the screams and glamour on the red carpet is the most exciting and anticipated moment of the 2019 Beijing International Film Festival, the Tiantan Award ceremony. This year the 15 nominated films are really competitive. Now it's time to check out who's the big winner of tonight."
At Saturday night's ceremony, President of the Jury Robert Minkoff presented the "Best Picture" award to "A Fortunate Man", a Danish film that tells the story of a country doctor.
The "Best Director" award went to Laszlo Nemes for his work in "Sunset", a co- production by Hungary and France. Aris Servetalis of Greece took home the "Best Actor" award for his role in "The Waiter". Forough Ghajabegli snatched the award for "Best Actress" for her role in "Tehran: City of Love".
The Chinese science fiction film "The Wandering Earth" was awarded the "Best Visual Effects" prize. While another Chinese production "The Eleventh Chapter" won the "Best Screenplay" award, and pop singer Dou Jingtong was named Best Supporting Actress for her debut in the film. Stars Nick Cheunk, Li Yifeng and Shah Rukh Khan also gave dazzling performances at the closing ceremony. SW, CGTN.
