Winter fishing on ice-covered Chagan Lake dates back to the Liao and Jin dynasties from the 10th century to the 13th century. In 2008, Chagan Lake winter fishing was officially recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO. The biggest fish in the first harvested net will be auctioned and the money will go to environmental protection of the lake.
