East African Community commends for mature conduct during presidential campaigns

The mission leader of the East African Community election observer mission (EOM) in Rwanda, Kenya’s former vice president Moody Awori, has commended the people of Rwanda for conducting themselves with maturity in the ongoing presidential election campaigns.
Awori said this on Monday in Kigali during the official flagging off of the EAC observer mission ahead of the August 4 presidential election.
"This is one of the most peaceful campaigns I have ever seen and I trust that it continues that way and you will uphold dignity and peace even on the election day and thereafter,” said Awori, a former vice-president of Kenya Awori.
The former vice president applauded Rwanda for peaceful campaigns stating that transparent and peaceful elections will be a plus not only for Rwanda but the entire East Africa Community and the whole of Africa at large.
Business in Rwanda operates as normal as its citizens look forward to the opportunity to elect their chosen leader on the day of the elections.
Rwandans in the diaspora are expected to cast their votes on the August 3, a day before the country’s elections.
About 50,000 Rwandans in the diaspora have registered to vote.
The presidential elections will pit the incumbent President Paul Kagame and two other candidates: Frank Habineza of the Democratic Green Party of Rwanda and independent candidate Philippe Mpayimana.
