China's Political Season: Xi Jinping elected as China's president and chairman of Central Military Commission

Xi Jinping has been elected as China's president and as the chairman of the country's Central Military Commission. He was elected earlier this morning by the 13th National People's Congress. Meanwhile, Li Zhanshu has been elected as the chairman of the 13th NPC Standing Committee. Wang Qishan has been elected as China's vice president. The vice-chairpersons and secretary general of the 13th NPC standing committee, have also been elected. The election was held after the methods of election and appointment were approved. The 13th NPC also passed a plan to restructure State Council institutions.
