China has hailed the efforts by both the US and the DPRK to improve the situation on the Korean peninsula. The foreign ministry said it hoped the June 12th summit in Singapore could go ahead as scheduled.
HUA CHUNYING CHINESE FOREIGN MINISTRY SPOKESPERSON "We believe that direct dialogue between the US and the DPRK leaders is key to resolving the Korean Peninsula issue. With the current breaking of the ice on the peninsula, the goal of denuclearization is facing an historic opportunity. We encourage both sides to show sincerity and to hold the summit as scheduled, to open the door of denuclearization, peace and bring about a prosperous future. We also believe it is necessary to pay attention to and to solve the DPRK's reasonable security concerns, and build a long-term efficient peace mechanism. China is willing to play a positive and constructive role in this."
