China welcomed the announcement of a meeting between US President Donald Trump and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) leader Kim Jong Un, urging them to show "political courage" in the pursuit of Korean Peninsula denuclearization.
"We welcome the positive signals by the US and the DPRK about having direct dialogue. The Korean Peninsula issue is moving in the right direction towards its settlement," said Geng Shuang, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday.
China calls for the relative parties to hold necessary and helpful bilateral and multilateral contact, and restart dialogue on the issue as soon as possible, he said.

Geng also cited statements from Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi at a press conference on Thursday that all parties involved need to make a concerted effort to bring the situation on the Peninsula back to the track of peace and stability.
The DPRK has offered to refrain from further nuclear or missile tests, Chung added.
