After witnessing its first ever annual decline in shipments, the Chinese cell phone market, once the world's engine for cell phone growth, continues to slow down.
The country's cell phone shipments dwindled by a drastic 16.6 percent to 39 million handsets in the first quarter of 2018.
Chinese cell phone makers have a grip on the local market with sales of over 33 million handsets or a predominant 85.7 percent.
But the overall drop affected everyone in the field. Shipments from Chinese makers dipped 18% year-on-year.
Meanwhile, smart phones still dominate China, representing 92.9% of the cell phones shipped in the period.
