On the sidelines of the Forum, the spouses of Chinese and African leaders met to discuss the fight against HIVAIDS. Madam Peng Liyuan has announced new prevention programs for China and Africa to work together in the next three years. Wu Guoxiu reports.
China's First Lady is also the WHO Goodwill Ambassador for Tuberculosis and HIVAIDS. Madam Peng Liyuan told the spouses of 37 African leaders in Beijing that China will carry out a three-year AIDS prevention program with teenagers across Africa. The group discussed achievements and future plans, as well as hailed the importance of cooperation with China.

By the end of 2017, China nearly eliminated the spread of HIV through blood transfusion, and effectively controlled transmission from mother to child during pregnancy. Over the years, China sent medical teams to more than 40 African countries, and provided drugs, medical equipments and other materials to fight AIDS. The Chief of UN AIDS says such a platform brings the world closer to a goal to eliminate the epidemic by 2030.
