The death toll in a militant attack on a mosque in Egypt's north Sinai region has risen to 235, Egyptian state television reported, quoting the public prosecutor.

According to Egypt's state TV, the number of people who died from the mosque attack has reached 200 with the number likely to increase.
Over 100 people were also injured.
Egyptian health ministry spokesman Khalid Mujahid has earlier described the incident as a “terrorist attack" when speaking to a local TV station.

The death toll from Friday's mosque attack in northern Sinai has climbed to 184, according to Egyptian state media.
Officials fear the casualties may continue to rise.
Another 125 people were injured in the assault and rushed to local hospitals.

Pictures circulating on the Internet from the scene show rows of bloodied victims lying on the ground inside al-Rawda mosque in northern Sinai.
Egypt has been fighting extremist insurgencies in the Sinai Peninsula in recent years after the military overthrew former President Mohammed Morsi in July 2013.

The death toll from the mosque bomb and gun attack has risen to 85, with another 80 people injured, according to Mena state news agency.
The Egyptian government has declared three days of state mourning.

At least 54 people were killed and another 75 injured after an explosion rocked al-Rawda mosque in northern Sinai on Friday.
The wounded have been transferred to nearby hospitals.
Armed militants targeted the mosque with a bomb and gunfire during Friday prayers, according to Xinhua News Agency.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
