A group of young people affected by the deadly 2008 Sichuan Earthquake have been invited to re-visit a children's care center in Russia. It is a place that gave them hope, friendship and love during one of the hardest times in their lives.
ALJOSA MILENKOVIC VLADIVOSTOK "True friends prove themselves in difficult and challenging situations. One such situation happened ten years ago when a strong earthquake hit China's Sichuan province, killing almost 90,000 people. Hundreds of thousands were injured, and millions were left without roofs over their heads. But it was then that the then-Russian president Dmitry Medvedev invited 1,500 children -- survivors of that deadly quake -- to come to Vladivostok to this place behind me. It is called an All-Russian Children's Center-- 'Ocean'. It is a famous place where children come from all over Russia and other countries worldwide to spend their summer time with other children. They learn new skills here, meet new friends, and create a friendship that lasts a lifetime. So those 1,500 children from Sichuan came here back in 2008, and it was the very first time that Chinese children came here after such event. A similar situation happened five years later in 2013 when another area of Sichuan province was hit by an earthquake. 259 children came here after that trauma. Now ten years after the first earthquake, some of them were invited to come back again to revisit this place and to refresh their memories about the hope they got during those very difficult times. And many here are eager to meet them again to see what they have accomplished in the last ten years and also to show that some of the friendship created back then are here for life.
