Chinese investment in Papua New Guinea is win-win and mutually beneficial, especially in terms of training local talents and improving people's livelihoods. That's according to staff of several Chinese companies doing business in the country.
KARL LEE, GM OF INTERNATIONAL DIVISION CHINA RAILWAY CONSTRUCTION GROUP "We've helped train local technical staff, and provided technical positions, our Chinese staff to local ratio has gone to 1 to 10, originally it was 1 to 1. So we've trained a large pool of local technical staff. In the future, we can give them more technical roles, they're very smart and learn fast, and they're very diligent, with a focus on procedures. We've created local jobs. Next we're going to invest in PNG. For example, simple things like housing, build schools, to better train technical staff, we don't want to just walk out after the construction projects are finished. To achieve mutual cooperation and benefits, we use profits to benefit locals, we're in it for the long run."
