Masterstroke by the ruling party to choose Kovind as candidate

The suspense over the ruling party Bhartiya Janta Party of BJP’s Presidential candidate was finally over. Kovind was chosen to be the candidate.
The BJP was in talks with various political parties and at the end of the deliberations they came up with this name. In these talks it was the demand of many political parties that the candidate should have a political background and this is taken care of by the choice of this candidate.
Kovind has served two consecutive terms as a member of parliament in the upper house. When his candidature was announced he was serving as the Governor of Bihar. Political analysts call it a masterstroke. By choosing him as a candidate the BJP has put the opposition in a soup.
By fielding Kovind BJP has clearly sent out a political message that they are not anti-dalit and not a party of the uppercaste. And with this the presence of BJP among dalits will depend thus helping Modi achieve his aim of BJP umbrella across the country. The fact that most Opposition parties from the south from the east have immediately voiced support for Kovind indicates wide support for the candidate.
For now, the political narrative about the president’s election clearly favors the saffron party. Mr Kovind is likely to file his nomination on 23rd June.
