Countries that supported new sanctions on the DPRK will “be responsible for all the consequences,” Pyongyang’s foreign ministry said on Sunday in a statement carried by state news agency KCNA, two days after the
UN Security Council imposed new sanctions on the country.
In the statement, the DPRK slammed the UN sanctions as an “act of war” that are “tantamount to complete economic blockade.” It said that strengthening nuclear deterrence is the only way to frustrate the US, and promised to further consolidate its self-defensive nuclear power.
It was the first official reaction from Pyongyang after the new US-drafted sanctions, which will restrict oil supplies that are vital for the impoverished state.
