Damascus says the aggression from Israel will only increase tension in the region.
Syria's Foreign Ministry said the attacks pose a "serious" threat to regional and international peace. It said the attackers will be confronted with the same strength and determination, calling this "a legitimate right guaranteed by international law". Syria's army said most Israeli rockets were intercepted and destroyed. The army said they will remain vigilant and are ready to resist aggression and maintain the sovereignty of the country. Our correspondent Alaa Ebrahim has more from Damascus.
ALAA EBRAHIM DAMASCUS For five hours, all of Damascus and Syria held its breath as the country seemed to be heading to regional war with Israel. On Thursday the Syrian army issued a televised statement saying that three were killed and two others were wounded in addition to the destruction of a radar station, ammunition depot and damages to a number of aerial defense battalions.
The military spokesperson didn't mention anything about Syrian or Iranian missiles being fired against Israeli military posts in the Golan Heights and only said that Syrian aerial defenses managed to intercept a large number of Israeli missiles that had targeted Syrian sites.
The Syrian army's statement said that such attacks will only make the army more determined to make more gains against terrorism across Syria.
Aside from the statement, Syrian officials remained silent and refused to talk about the possibility of escalation. Sources close to the government, however, tell CGTN that Damascus is not interested in further escalation.
