Egypt has vowed to support a political transition in Sudan that fulfills the desires of the Sudanese people. The announcement came from President El Sisi on Saturday, after welcoming the chairman of the Sudanese Military Transitional Council in Cairo. CGTN's Adel El Mahrouky has the story.
While pressure mounts domestically from opposition powers, the chairman of Sudan's Military Council seeks Cairo's support. It's Abdel Fattah Burhan's first visit to the Egyptian Capital. Here President Abdel Fattah EL Sisi, his foreign minister and chief of intelligence have held intensive talks about the political instability in Sudan.
ASMAA EL HUSSEINY DEPUTY EDITOR IN CHIEF, AL AHRAM "Egypt respects the desires of the Sudanese people. Cairo will work to support talks between the Military Council and the opposition powers calling for change in order to lead Sudan in a more secure and stable situation. Security in Sudan and protection of their common border is still crucial to Egypt's stability."
Shortly after President AL Bashir's ouster, Cairo has reflected confidence in the Transitional Military Council to lead a desirable transition in Sudan. Burhan's trip is part of a regional tour seeking support from Saudi Arabia as well.
ADEL EL MAHROUKY CAIRO "Burhan didn't come empty handed. He has comforted Egyptian demands to arrest and send back all Egyptian's wanted by security institutions. A demand Al Bashir has been reluctant to grant EL Sisi, which has made Sudan a safe haven for Muslim Brotherhood Members and other opposition powers. Adel EL Mahrouky CGTN, Cairo."
