One person was killed and three others were injured after as many as 20 rockets targeted Hamid Karzai International Airport and the surrounding area in the Afghan capital, officials said Wednesday.

Three suspected attackers were shot dead.

The assault came hours after US Defense Secretary Jim Mattis arrived in Kabul for talks about stepping up the fight against the Taliban.

The group claimed responsibility for the attack, saying that Mattis was their target.
