Qatar has signed a letter of intent with Britain to buy 24 Typhoon fighter jets, Qatar's state news agency (QNA) reported on Monday.
The agreement, signed on Sunday by Qatar's Defense Minister Khalid bin Mohammed Al Attiyah and Britain's Defense Secretary Michael Fallon, aims to strengthen cooperation and mutual support in the military and technical field between the two countries, said the report.
Fallon spoke about the importance of Britain's first major defense contract with Qatar, one of the country's strategic partners. "This is an important moment in our defense relationship and the basis for even closer defense cooperation between our two countries," said Fallon.
The two sides met afterwards to discuss aspects of military cooperation, especially in the effort to combat terrorism and violent extremism, as well as regional issues.
On June 15, Qatar and the US signed a deal for the purchase of F-15 fighter jets with an initial cost of 12 billion US dollars.
