Chinese President Xi Jinping's proposal and commitment to further open up China's economy has drawn worldwide attention. Regarding his statement that "Reform and opening-up is a second revolution of China," Lawrence Brahm, founder and director of the Himalayan Consensus Institute, has told CGTN his interpretation.
In his view, China's current opening-up process is much different than that in the 1980s. "China's first opening was about how to bring foreign investment in China. Now China is very competitive internationally." As China is the largest domestic investor in artificial intelligence and technology in the world, he sees a future where China is the leading force in various high-tech areas such as quantum communication and digital banking. "It is really about China, which is thinking globally, but also looking way ahead of the curve," he added.
