Opinion: The greatest revolutionary practice: Dreaming of prosperity

The greatest event in the last century must be the establishment of the People’s Republic of China in 1949. It totally changed the history and life of the Chinese people, because it liberated the whole of China from the rule of a semi-colonial and semi- feudal society. It marked the political rise of the country and the Chinese people.

The greatest event in the new century must be the anti-poverty campaign that has greatly impacted China and the world. The significance of the policy to combat poverty is to liberate people from the shackles of destitution. It helps the country to tell the world that the Chinese people are rising economically. Only by achieving this goal, can we proudly announce that we are the happiest people in the world and truly enjoy a real life with prosperity.

General Sectary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Xi Jinping has paid great attention to and showed concern about those who are still living under extremely poor conditions. During his first year as the top Party chief, he visited more than 20 counties and areas where people struggle to support themselves. Since then, he has decided to take action to help those people to get rid of poverty.

As the general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, Xi chose the goal of eradicating poverty by 2020. Concrete measures and actions have been taken to fulfill the task ever since.

In the past five years, over 10 million people have been lifted out of poverty on an annual basis. There are still around 40 million people who still live in penurious conditions. The task is not easy and carrying out the mission will be a milestone for the CPC.

Xi realized that the mission to fight against poverty must be carefully planned to avoid any possible mistakes. That is why he asked the government at all levels to take "targeted efforts" to alleviate poverty. There are so many measures and guidelines to guide the whole society in order to facilitate the process of poverty alleviation.

One of the main measures includes eliminating poverty, not just in numbers but also in facts. Any behavior falsifying actions, which should be taken to fight against poverty, must be seriously punished.

Another important guideline in the efforts to combat poverty is to help those in need acquire the skills to support themselves through training and knowledge. This in turn will help them make a better life and prevent them from falling back into poverty.

Millions of cadres have visited the countryside and set up "one-on-one" teams to help every poor person free themselves from extreme poverty.

We know that it is easy to help people by providing goods, but it will be essential to build a solid foundation for these people to receive education and scientific assistance to improve their productivity. This way we will ensure that they hold a real chance in meeting future challenges and difficulties.

This is why we are saying poverty alleviation in this century is a real success for mankind.

The anti-poverty drive reflects the principle of a “people-oriented” policy, which was established personally by Xi Jinping, as he has always held dear the life of people in his heart. To serve the people will remain the key interests of the CPC's mission for the years to come.

The 19th CPC National Congress has again asked the entire Party to continue all efforts to realize the goal of poverty alleviation by 2020, and to make China a “prosperous, strong, democratic, culturally advanced, harmonious and beautiful nation” by 2050.

The United Nations has set its goal to reduce by at least half the number of people living below an annual income of 2,300 yuan per year by 2030, but China is set to fulfill this target 10 years in advance. This is the greatest contribution the Chinese people have ever made for a prosperous and peaceful globe!

China will bring more miracles to the world under the CPC leadership and we are fully confident in marching towards that goal!
