Super typhoon Maria has made landfall in Lianjiang County, in east China's Fujian Province. Maria is the eighth typhoon this year. Weather authorities have issued warnings about downpours in areas including Fujian and Zhejiang provinces. Gales, high waves and heavy rain are expected. Residents were evacuated and boats were back in harbor in east China Tuesday. Trains were halted and flights canceled. Schools and factories in coastal areas were asked to close today. Ongoing projects involving highways and ports were also suspended. Workers are on standby to repair damage, and firefighters are prepared for rescue missions. Our reporter Sunye has more from Fujian.
