The State Council Information Office is aiming to do more for skilled workers and is encouraging them to share their stories. Our reporters got to meet four of them. Here are their stories of learning how to become masters of their trades and building a rewarding life.
Beginning as an ordinary assembler on automobile production line, Zhao Yu worked his way up to become a chief technician over the past 2 decades. He said it's important to maintain an open, and even international vision. A study trip to Germany years ago gave his master studio a chance to learn from other teams.
ZHAO YU, CHIEF TECHNICIAN BEIJING BENZ AUTOMOTIVE CO., LTD "Through our master studio, we've shared and learned with other brilliant teams on how to expand the scope of our different skills, which not only helps our young employees to improve their skills, but also cultivates talent for the whole auto industry."
The word that Wang Jun, chief technician from Bao Shan Steel, mentions most is "innovation". He deeply feels his happiness and achievements come from his neverending quest to innovate. A special cooling system for hot-rolled steel he created has helped deal with an industry-wide problem, and also earned him authorizations for national international patents.
WANG JUN, ADVANCED TECHNICIAN HOT ROLLING PLANT, BAO SHAN STEEL CO., LTD "Innovation brings me a sense of achievement and happiness over the creative process. We should encourage people to work creatively, with an eye towards innovation, which can bring huge additional value, as well as a higher quality of life to people."
Qin Shijun, a chief technician and an expert on China's aviation industry, said what gets his spirit flying is the passion of being a craftsman. In the beginning, he learned the basics of concepts like numerical control machine operation. He kept focusing and accumulating experience day after day. His innovative work has helped the company increase the quality pass rate for the parts it makes to 100 percent.
QIN SHIJUN, CHIEF TECHNICIAN AVIC HARBIN AIRCRAFT INDUSTRY GROUP CO., LTD. "We need to find joy and fun from our work while working hard. Then we will treat the products we make like they are our masterpieces. The craftsman in the new era needs to follow the latest trends, and the spirit of being a craftsman requires us to have the same dedication the older generations had. And we need to introduce new ideas and technology as well."
It's not all about factory work either. Hu Ping, a 23-year-old from Beijing, last year won the first gold medal for China in fashion technology at the 44th World Skills Competition. She also offered her views on working in a fulfilling trade.
HU PING, FASHION TECHNOLOGY STUDENT BEIJING INDUSTRY AND TRADE TECHNICIAN COLLEGE "Finishing something through persistence and hard work gives me a sense of achievement and makes me really happy. Nowadays, young people sometimes may be more impulsive and impatient -- I think we should always stay calm and interested when we study or work, which can make us keep going."
Happiness achieved through hard work. These four show how working diligently and patiently can not only hone a great skill but also a satisfying life.
