At least one person was killed and 18 were injured after an explosion at a major gas hub in Vienna, Austria, on Tuesday morning, local media reported, citing emergency services.
Local police confirmed on Twitter that the explosion happened shortly before 9:00 a.m. local time due to technical cause and that the gas hub at Baumgarten, east of Vienna, had been evacuated.
The situation was under control, according to a spokesman of the gas station. "The facility was shut down and is now out of operation," national broadcaster ORF quoted a Gas Connect Austria spokesman as saying.
Local police confirmed the situation is now stable, but the fire department is still working on the scene to put out flames after the explosion.
Baumgarten is a key gas hub, supplying gas from Russia and Norway to the rest of Europe.
