Historic and cultural area home to many Hong Kong vendors

Stanley Bay is a popular tourist spot in Hong Kong. For the 20th anniversary of Hong Kong’s return to China, who better to host visitors than a Stanley restauranteur who has called the area home for 50 years?
Spiaggia has been serving fresh seafood to its customers for decades. Its owner, Rolf Schneider, is originally from Switzerland.
”I'm here in Stanley now 35 years,” he said. "Thirty to 35 years ago, we opened a restaurant in one corner, which was at that time called Stanley French Restaurant. At that time, it was a famous restaurant in Hong Kong.”
Today, that restaurant is Spiaggia and it is just one out of many eateries and shops that currently stand on Hong Kong’s famous Stanley Market.
The market is well known for its wide selection of souvenirs, ranging from vintage bargains to modern items.
Schneider says this is what makes Stanley unique. "Living here in Stanley is a great location. The view and everything is just great. I arrived here in ’68 and now almost 50 years later I'm still here."
For Schneider, Stanley Bay is much more than just an attraction, it’s home, a place where he will continue to make memories for years to come.
