A trade war could be avoided between China and the US, according to Zhu Min, former deputy managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), who expressed the idea during an exclusive interview with CGTN reporter Zou Yun.

Zhu first notes that there are no winners in a trade war, as it will not only harm China and the US, but also impact other parts of the world. He also believes this is a global issue, as many exports from China have components from other parts of the world.
The former IMF deputy chief then pointed out there are still chances to avoid the trade war. He notes China has acted in a very calm way, despite recent escalations in the trade dispute, and the door to negotiation is still open.
He also provided a historic perspective. There were five times that the Section 301 allegation was used against China in the past, and all of them were solved after negotiation, including three that ended with intellectual property agreements.
Once again, he says China and the US should consider talks, and we should avoid trade war as much as we can.
