With the rapid development of China’s economy, enormous technological and infrastructure projects have mushroomed across the country one after the other. Behind these incredible feats of engineering are numerous craftsmen with unrivaled skills and knowledge. To better understand the secrets behind China’s technical marvels, CGTN followed these masters to unveil the stunning work they have contributed towards the "Chinese dream," the country's goal of widespread prosperity and innovation to rival the world's leading nations. Jiaolong is China’s first manned deep-sea submersible. It set a Chinese record in June 2012 by diving 7,062 meters down in the Pacific Ocean's Mariana Trench, potentially allowing the vessel to conduct research and exploration on 99.8 percent of the world's seafloors. Gu Qiuliang is one of the technical staff who participated in the production of Jiaolong. He took responsibility for installing the viewports. In order to guarantee the safety of the crew, Gu had to make sure the gap between the glass and the frame was less than 0.2 deci-millimeters – and to measure the slit, he and his colleague had to use their fingers. Now Gu has a new challenge – because of his work, his fingers can’t be recognized by fingerprint scanners.
