While the long-awaited meeting between the US and DPRK is underway in Singapore, China has welcomed the summit and hopes the two sides will find ways to overcome differences and agree on important issues that can help achieve peace and denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula.
WANG YI CHINESE FOREIGN MINISTER "The fact that the leaders from the US and DPRK are sitting down and having an equal-footed dialogue, this in itself is of a great significance and a historic moment. China, of course, welcomes such a development because this has been an objective we have been looking forward to and have worked towards over the years, we hope the leaders of both sides will remove disruptions, build mutual trust, overcome differences and make important steps in realizing denuclearization and a peace-keeping mechanism on the Korean Peninsula. We hope that relevant parties will play an active role in the process, and China will continue to play its constructive role."
