Since arriving in US waters in the 1980s, lionfish have left a trail of destruction along the American east coast, all the way from Rhode Island to Venezuela. Since lionfish have no natural predators here, they eat many native species on the reefs and wreak havoc on the ecosystem. To fix this problem, scientists have developed a machine to vacuum up the fish automatically. The machine takes the fish to land, where residents can then choose to eat them.
