Kishore Mahbubani is the senior advisor for the University and Global Relations and professor in the Practice of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore. He previously served for 33 years in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and he is also recognized as an expert on Asian and world affairs.
During the Davos, Mr. Mahbubani spoke with CGTN reporter Tian Wei on the political trend in the West.
“Both the general public of Europe and the US are anxious about their future, but in China and India young people are very optimistic. Pessimism leads to an unusual political outcome. That is something Asia should worry about because we don’t want the West to self-destruct in any way. It’s in the interest of Asia to have a strong, confident West.”
The former diplomat also spoke on the China-India-US triangle.
“When Indian Prime Minister Modi spoke at Davos, his message sounded more like President Xi’s speech last year. He did not sound like President Trump at all, which is very interesting because President Trump and Prime Minister Modi are very good personal friends.”
