China has been a frontrunner in poverty reduction, having alleviated a significant amount of people from below the poverty line. And as CGTN's Zhao Yunfei reports, some believe that China's experience can be applied to other developing countries.
World leaders from 28 countries have launched a platform to promote knowledge sharing on poverty alleviation. With an abundant amount of data on poverty reduction, the new portal gives the international community a chance to exchange ideas and experiences.
VINCENT MARTIN REPRESENTATIVE IN CHINA AND DPRK, FOOD AND AGRICULTURE ORGANIZATION "Sharing experience between countries which are facing the same challenges, sharing the experience, in this case, of China with other developing countries. That want to get an inspiration. We want to get a direction of how China succeeded in making this remarkable achievement in eight hundred million people out of poverty."
Martin says poverty conditions in each developing country are diverse, and need to be treated in a case by case manner. That's what makes communication and cooperation necessary.
ZHAO YUNFEI BEIJING "The Chinese government has worked hard to share with the rest of the world the lessons the country has learned in poverty alleviation. This book titled 'The Way Forward', collects stories of poverty alleviation in China. It can show the way forward for countries that want to help their people."
NOEL DAKAMAU MALAWI HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT OFFICER "Poverty is one of the elements of human rights. If people are poor, then it is against human rights. So it is very necessary to reduce poverty of local community."
The Financial sector has been involved in helping developing countries achieve their goals. The Asian Development Bank is committed to advance South-South knowledge sharing.
BENEDICT BINGHAM DIRECTOR IN CHINA, ASIAN DEVELOPMENT BANK "What we are looking really with financial institutions is to develop the kind of collaborative partnerships through co-financing, but also knowledge partnerships that can allow the private sector intermediated by financial institutions to come to build this process as well."
World organizations are collecting more research and case studies to solicit better practices for each country. Zhao Yunfei, CGTN, Beijing.
