China supports Cameroon to accelerate its industrialization and will encourage Chinese companies to invest in the western African country, Chinese President Xi Jinping told his Cameroonian counterpart Paul Biya in Beijing on Thursday.
Xi added that China welcomes Cameroon to take part in the building of the Belt and Road. An initiative proposed by the Chinese president to build trade as well as infrastructure networks connecting Asia with Europe and Africa along and beyond the ancient Silk Road routes.
Biya, the first foreign head of state to visit China after the country's annual legislative session, congratulated Xi on his election as Chinese president.
Cameroon welcomes Chinese companies to expand investment in the country and boost its development in the areas of industry, agriculture, energy, transport, housing and new technologies, Biya said.
"China's contribution has been decisive in carrying out many important projects for the economic and social development of my country," he told Xi.
Beijing will host the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) summit in September with focus on the Belt and Road Initiative.
Biya spoke highly of the Initiative, noting that Cameroon supports cooperation between the two sides within the framework of the FOCAC.
He also reiterated Cameroon's adherence to the one-China policy.
The two presidents witnessed the signing of various cooperative documents, covering areas including business cooperation, infrastructure and human resources development.
Since China and Cameroon established diplomatic ties in 1971, bilateral cooperation has grown steadily in various fields. This counts as Biya's sixth visit to China.
